In our digital age the future of beauty is evolving fast. There are now face masks to suit every face and every skin type, whether you’re looking for a quick-fix or an evening’s pampering accompanied by a bubble bath and candles.
Many companies have moved away from tubs, tubes or messy sachets of cream masks following the lead of the Korean approach of sheet masks. These instant hits of hydration are soaked with serum to penetrate the skin while you have nothing more to do than lie back and relax.
We join the beauty revolution and pick the latest face masks…but not as you know them:
The Foreo UFO
Meet the world’s most futuristic smart mask and experience a spa style facial in just 90 seconds. Standing for ‘Ur Future Obsession,’ this dinky little handheld gadget is the latest innovation from fast-becoming-cult Scandi brand Foreo.
It combines light technologies – LED Light Therapy, Thermotherapy (using heat), Cryotherapy (a cooling effect) and T-sonic pulsations. The UFO launches with the choice of 2 masks, ‘Make my Day’ and ‘Call it a Night,’ each option only taking up a minute and a half of your time and leaving no mess to scrape, peel or trowel off.
The mask comes in two settings; ‘Make My Day,’ is the morning treatment containing hyaluronic acid and red algae for intense moisturisation to prevent free radical damage. ‘Call it a Night’ addresses the deeper replenishment required overnight, containing ginseng and olive oil.
The UFO beauty process is controlled via a handy app, so you can track and top up your mask supply and keep up to date with soon-to-be released masks.
The Foreo UFO can be pre-ordered for £249 at Foreo.
One of the most reasonably priced masks on the market, these individual tissue sheet masks pack a real punch – claiming to diffuse the equivalent level of hydrating serum as one week’s use of its renowned Garnier Moisture Bomb Day Cream.
Made from 100% natural cellulose fibre tissue, this mask adheres to the skin’s contours and is drenched in active ingredients including hyaluronic acid and pomegranate extract. These are the perfect affordable and easy hydration boost for home or travel.
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Masks are £2.99 each. Available at Boots.com.
Erborian BB Shot Mask
Korean women include a mask in their skincare routine at least once a week, which we think goes a long way to explaining their famed youthful appearance. This pearlised mask from Erborian is designed to give an instant beauty boosting effect. Aiming for entire perfection for your complexion, this is the kind of illuminating mask that is essential prep for a special night out.
Smoothing, refining and plumping, the sheet fabric mask is soaked with active ingredients. Leave on for 15 minutes, and you will feel the mask begin to dry out as all the goodies sink into your skin. Carefully remove the mask, gently rub in any lingering serum on the surface of your face and imperfections really will appear softened. Skin is left velvety smooth and plumped.
Erborian BB Shot Mask is priced at £6.00 each. Available at Erborian.
Dr Jart Shake & Shot Rubber Mask
Another Korean beauty ritual, rubber masking has now become internationally accessible. Dr Jart has launched 4 different rubber masks, packaged in super cute movie style plastic cups, complete with spatulas disguised as straws. Each cup is topped with a quirky 3D face on the lid.
In the past, home rubber masks have involved timely messy preparation. Not so these, simply remove the ‘straw,’ place a finger over the cup’s hole and shake. The mixture quickly becomes a rubber like texture and hey presto, it’s ready to apply.
Not entirely drip-proof, you do need to dress appropriately for this mask, but once on, you can simply peel off. Available in 4 ‘flavours’ – Brightening, Hydro, Firming and Soothing.
The Dr Jart Shake and Shot Rubber Masks are £7.69 each. Available at Yesstyle.com
