Festival season is well and truly underway, and with Glastonbury having happened just last weekend, there is a lot of beauty and fashion inspiration available on the online world. One of my favourite festival beauty trends is the glittery, space bun up-do. I think that this is such a girly, ’90s inspired trend that looks really cool and summery. Get the look yourself with this super easy guide to creating your very own Festival Glitter Hair.

The first step is to add some volume into your hair. Before starting any styling, one of the quickest and easiest ways to create volume is to apply dry shampoo. Lush’s No Drought Dry Shampoo is great as it comes out in powder form so you can apply as much or as little as you like and easily rub it into your hair. Once your hair is volumised, create a partfollow your parting down the back of your hair and separate into two sections.

To create the space buns, pull each section of hair up into a high ponytail, so that you have one on each side and secure with an Invisibobble. Use the base of the ponytail as your starting point and wrap the hair in a circular motion around itself into a bun and secure again with another Invisibobble. You can always backcomb these sections before hand to create extra volume, and tease it out to create a messier, more festival inspired look.

To hold the buns in place, slide Kirby grips from the outside pieces of hair into the centre of the bun to secure it in place and keep them hidden from sight.

Once you are happy with your space buns, finish with a coating of hair spray. Ensure that you put an extra spray down your parting and where you want to apply your glitter, so that it acts as a sticky base to hold it in place.

It feels like everywhere is selling glitter from Topshop to New Look, Primark to eBay. But, this blue, mermaid inspired pack from Billie’s range at BooHoo is really cool and will work a treat. This is the part where you can apply as much or as little glitter to your roots and once you’ve applied enough, finish off the look with once last coat of hairspray.
