This week our red carpet spotlight falls on Lebanese couture designer Georges Chakra. Chakra launched his label in 1985 by opening his first shop in his hometown of Lebanon. In 2002 Chakras began showing on schedule during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Despite building a strong clientele of A-list celebrities and royalty it was the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada that introduced the designer to a more mainstream audience.
Such was the experience that Chakras was moved to begin showing his collection in New York. So, in 2009 Chakras launched the luxury ready-to-wear line, Edition by Georges Chakra, at New York Fashion Week. Celebrity fans of the designer include Fan Bingbing, Helen Mirren, Rihanna and Sharon Stone. Here are five of just some of our favourite red carpet looks from Georges Chakra…
Rising actress Lily Colins is a big fan of the brand and has worn the label at several key events this year alone. Here she is at Lancôme’s ‘Declaring Happiness’ exhibition last month in Shanghai. Collins opted for this gorgeous white mini dress. Taken from the brand’s SS17 couture collection the dress is a perfect fit for the occasion. It’s was young, fresh and a trendy mixture of femininity and edginess.
Scandal actress Darby Stanchfield turned to Georges Chakra for the 2017 Oscars. White was a big theme at the awards ceremonies this year and it’s a tough one to get right. Mainly because it des nothing to hide your flaws and you don’t want to look like you’re about to walk down the aisle. The simple styling works really well as the dress has an attached cape, which, is enough drama on it’s own. Love this look. Who said red heads can’t carry off white?!
Carla Gugino upped the glamour in spades for the London premiere of her film San Andreas back in 2015. The form-fitting gown from the AW14 collection looks like it was made for Gugino. We love a bit of drama on the red carpet and this brings it – from the colour to the train. Red is always a controversial one on the red carpet but this oxblood shade works extremely well.
When the Chinese style queen get it right the fashion press sits up. And, this was one of those occasions. Bingbing was in New York for the premiere of X-Men: Days Of Future back in 2014. The actress totally pulled off this maxi gown with cape and feather detailing. The AW14 couture gown would have ‘drowned’ lesser souls!
The budding model rocked the sheer look for the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. As sheer jumpsuits go this is one of the classiest I’ve seen and totally fitting for an MTV awards show. Proving that Georges Chakra’s appeal spans a wide age range this is a look I am sure a woman twice Hailey’s age could equally pull off.
