Introducing the songstress and diva of the moment, Ariana Grande. As if she needed any introduction. From her Nickelodeon days to her most recent One Love concert in Manchester, Ariana has been hitting those high notes every single time. When her signature ponytail isn’t at the centre of attention, Ariana has been known to rock some absolutely beautiful makeup looks. The One Love concert was no exception; I may or may not have been paying more attention to her eyeshadow than her tunes at certain times… What can I say? This girl knows how to work that bronzed eye look. Let’s get recreating.
To get Ariana’s warm, bronzed skin, start with your favourite foundation and apply in circular motions with a foundation brush or beauty blender. It helps to apply foundation before concealer; applying the foundation over concealer would spread the concealer around and you lose its effect. I personally find that a layer of foundation provides decent coverage and I end up using less concealer, which is always a bonus.

Warm the complexion up with a matte bronzer. Ariana has Italian roots, which give her a naturally tanned, olive complexion. For us paler ladies, apply the bronzer in light, sweeping motions over the edges of the face, particularly over angularities where the sun would naturally hit the face, like the nose, jawline and cheekbones. Don’t forget to extend down the neck. There’s nothing quite like the “mismatched face and neck” look.

Time to contour. To recreate Ariana’s defined features, sweep the darker contouring shade over your temples, underneath your cheekbones and down your jawline in a “3” shape. Particularly if you are wearing your hair up, extend the colour into your hairline for a naturally seamless shadow. Add a touch of the darker colour to the sides of your nose for a slimming effect. Apply the highlighting colour over the tops of your cheekbones, on your chin and forehead. Finish with a touch of blush on the apples of your cheeks. And blend to your heart’s content.

Now for Ariana’s bronzed eye look. Start by applying a primer all over the lid and under the eye with your finger. If you’re fresh out of primer, a concealer works well too; this creates a lovely, even base which makes the eyeshadow colour pop. Using an eyeshadow brush, apply a shimmery rose-gold colour all over the lid. Gently wing it upwards and outwards at the outer corner of the eye. Dust your brush off and apply a dark, matte brown in the outer crease of the eye and along the lower lashline. Using a fluffy blending brush, blend the two shades together on the top lid. Using the eyeshadow brush, dab a shimmery light gold or beige colour in the inner corner of the eye for a brightening effect.

Apply a nude or white eyeliner to the waterline to make the eyes appear larger and brighter. Finish the eyes with a dramatic wing on the top lid (using a gel or liquid liner) and a coat of mascara on the top and bottom lashes.

For Ariana’s glossy pout, start with a generous coat of lip balm to lock in moisture. For this look, Ariana wears a nude lipstick that leans towards the pink end of the spectrum, with a lip liner that is slightly darker than the colour of her lipstick. This creates an illusion of plump, full lips. Draw along the outline of the lips with the lip liner, then fill in with the lipstick. The colour of your lip liner will depend on the shade of your lipstick; opt for something no more than one or two shades darker than your lipstick.

Fair ladies with a cooler complexion would look beautiful in a beige, peach or baby pink colour. Those of us who are more tanned and have warmer undertones should go for a caramel brown or dusty rose colour. As for the darker-skinned beauties out there, opt for a terracotta brown, mauve, or plum if you’re feeling bold.

Complete the look with a clear lip gloss. It is worth investing in a high quality formula that is not sticky or gloopy, otherwise you’ll have to avoid drinking from any glassware all night – that can’t be fun.
