Not as ‘sexy’ as other US sporting events such as basketball and American football, Baseball is slowly but surely upping its ante in the cool stakes. Last night New Era held a launch party at their flagship store on Brewer Street in an attempt to introduce Major League Baseball to the UK masses.
Having not visited the store for a number of years I was really impressed with the layout – back in the day I had a little baseball hat obsession. Far cry from the old days the shop is well laid out and is a hat lovers paradise. From today the 1st floor has been taken over by MLB (Major League Baseball) Dugout for two weeks which will coincide with the annual World Series which will see the San Francisco Giants play the Detroit Tigers in a best-of-7 playoff.
Even if you’re not a big fan of hats there are definitely things to keep you interested whilst instore. Fancy yourself as a Babe Ruth or Jackie Robinson? Fake it till you make it by getting a photo of yourself transferred on to retro style baseball cards. An amazing Christmas gift for yourself (or others depending on how vain you are). As a lover of freebies my main reason for going back is to play Batter Up (see picture above). The interactive video game will run for the duration of the MLB Dugout – simply get the highest score by close of business on 7th November and you could be the proud winner of a trip to a Major League Baseball game in America. To top it all off all World Series games will be screened from today up until the final, next Thursday, 1st November. *puts coat on and heads back to Brewer Street*
