New Year, New Hair

We all know that nothing lifts your mood or signifies a change on a personal level better than changing your hair! A new hair cut, or a change of colour might be just what you need to get a jump start on 2018. We’ll leave the haircut advise to your hair stylist, but here are some temporary hair colours you can try at home, before you go for the more permanent deal (or not)!

So, let me start by saying that I’ve spent the last couple weeks with hair all colours of the rainbow, on a bid to try all these temporary hair colouring options and attest to their results.

Joico Instatint Temporary Colour Shimmer Spray | £4,95 at

These shimmering hair colours do exactly what they say and add a bit of colour and lovely sparkle to your hair with a soft hold. They wash off easily, so no panic about having to live with purple fairy dust hair for weeks (although I did love the sparkle!). They will be visible in slightly darker coloured hair also, which is a big plus for me, but as with most temporary hair colouring products, the lighter your hair is, the more the colour will show. They say, “Spray on updos, braids and individual strands for glowing hints here and there, or use a stencil to create whimsical hair designs without any messy fallout. Simply spray onto dry hair to add a metallic edge to your hair and easily pep up any outfit.” In a range of colours from Amethyst to Rose Gold, you can have a bit of fun without having to commit to full on Periwinkle coloured hair!

Joico Colour Butter – Colour Intensity Colour Depositing Treatment | £14,95 at

Love at first try! 5 minutes with this beautifully soft and gentle product on and my hair was fiery red and so, so soft! They say it last up to 10 washes. I didn’t count them, but it did eventually wash off. They say, “Color Butter’s are brilliant, ultra-moisturizing hybrid products to amp up the richness of high-beam hair color or add a pop of color to blondes who want to shake things up. At the same time, new JOICO Color Butter offers a rich-yet-weightless treatment that give the pop of a temporary hair colour. With conditioning benefits that can reduce hair breakage by over 44%. Formulated with JOICO’s state-of-the-art technology – including restorative Arginine and powerful Bio-Advanced Peptide Complex™ to strengthen and repair hair – Color Butter is designed to fuse fun and fashion with serious care and can last up to ten washes!” It really does only “stick” noticeably to blonde hair or if you already have bright coloured hair, it will e a great way to maintain you colour in between tints. Available in six shades, including Green and Titanium. Smells great also!

Crazy Colour by Renbow Pastel Spray | £5,99 on Amazon

Again, colour for blonde or bleached hair. If you’re a dark blonde it will still show, but not so much on darker hair colours. They say “use these brilliant, versatile products to add a mist of colour to blondes that want to spice up their colour for a night! These strawberry scented spray’s wash out immediately after one use so you can afford to mix up your colour for each party you have planned.” Available in 4 shades, Bubble Gum, Lavender, Marshmallow and Peachy Coral, you can spray it onto damp hair and then blow dry it, it will lock in the colour and last you a bit longer than one wash, but it’s still a very temporary burst of colour for a bit of fun. And it really does smell like strawberries!

Infuse My. Colour | £13.95 at

Totally in love with these shampoos! Everything about them. My hair is so soft, my scalp feels comfortable and my hair colour is revived. They come in a range of 5 colours, Gold, Platinum, Copper, Ruby and Cobalt, and I can say they do the deed. They will refresh and revive coloured hair or add gorgeous shades to platinum blonde hair. They say, “Infuse My Colour Wash Gold maintains the brightness of pale, medium, dark blonde and all highlights. Puts sunshine back into washed out honey blondes, and is great as a glossing shine shampoo for warm coloured hair.” It won’t radically change your hair colour, but it will maintain your tone, and the Cobalt will maintain the coolness in  brown and ash blonde hair. Copper and Ruby will add warmth and revive redheads. So adding these to my shampoo arsenal!

Shades of London Conditioning Hair Toner |£3,99 at Savers

“For those looking for a bold hair colour change and are lovers of monochrome, the charcoal hair trend will definitely be up their street. The new Shades London Silver Shadow toner is an easy way to temporarily jazz up blonde hair. Silver Shadow, a smokey charcoal inspired colour that will bring a sultry element to your look for Autumn/Winter. If you have always wanted to be bold and try something new but have been too scared to commit to something permanent, or didn’t want to take the risk of damaging your hair then these wash-in colours are perfect for you. This is an easy way to try a new shade for the new year!” We have to agree, if you’re afraid to commit but have been wanting to try the new trend of grey locks, this is perfect. You will need to be very blonde or bleached though, for it to get any real payoff. Wanna go grey?
