If you’re a regular follower of the big red carpets then you may be familiar with Monse. The quirky, New York based brand’s eclectic collections are fast gaining popularity with the A-listers. Launched in 2015, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia started the brand after meeting whilst working together at Oscar de la Renta. Currently on their third collection, Monse aims is to create “modern and feminine” pieces.
This season (AW17) was a particularly busy one for the duo. As well as being co-creators of Monse they also returned to Oscar de la Renta as co-creative directors. Clearly not ones to shy away from a challenge they ran both NYFW shows (Monse and Oscar de la Renta) back to back in February…without a break. Impressive! Celebrity fans of the brand include Thandie Newton, Jessica Biel, Diane Kruger and Selena Gomez amongst others. Check out five of our favourite red carpet looks from the brand…
The former Doctor Who actress OWNED this look. Taken from the brand’s AW17 collection, Gillan pulled the look off with aplomb at the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 LA premiere. Monse isn’t for the shy, demure female. So if you haven’t got bags of attitude you’ll struggle to pull off their pieces. Luckily Gillan ha no such worry.
This off-the-shoulder maxi dress was a great choice for Thandie. By Monse’s standards this dress is quite tame. Check out their full collections and you’ll understand what I mean. Nonetheless this is a great red carpet choice for the actress and a great fit for the Golden Globes.
Girls actress Zosia Mamet is another celebrity that isn’t afraid to experiment with modern, eye-catching pieces. Mamet chose this belted dress from the brand’s Resort 2017 collection to attend the 2017 Whitney Biennial. What I love about Monse’s pieces is that they have so much interesting details that you can get away with wearing minimal or no accessories at all.
Sometimes it takes a model to pull off catwalk looks ‘in real life’ and this is one of those cases. The look works because Natalia Vodianova looks totally comfortable. At first glance the pieces do look mismatched but I promise you it will grow on you. Monse have a touch of Vivienne Westwood about them. The shoes, however, were a poor choice with this look – they’re too ‘pretty and formal’ for the outfit. Other than that – I like the eclectic look.
Rihanna must have found herself in a dilemma when faced with this invitation. How to look formal yet still fashionable enough to maintain her standards. Well, fortunately Rihanna turned to Monse for her acceptance of the Humanitarian of the Year Awards from Harvard University. This look was particularly fitting for the occasion and comes from the brand’s AW17 collection. If only all tweed looked this sexy!
