REVIEW: Awake Organics Aura Clean Deodorant

Awake Organics Aura Clean Deodorant

Price: £14.99

Stockists: awakeorganics.co.uk

Pros:

  • With the vast array of chemicals in our lives it’s fantastic to find areas where we can survive quite nicely without them and this deodorant is one of those areas.
  • Full of lovely botanical oils to reduce bacteria and odour; it is pleasant to use.
  • Aura just gets on with the job without a big parade.
  • 100% natural and aluminium-free organic cream deodorant.

Cons:

  • As usual if you are going off the beaten track and looking after your body and mind in a healthy organic way it is going to cost more than the big companies so it is a lifestyle choice.
  • You apply this product with your fingers as no spatula is provided. This could lead to the introduction of bacteria which could compromised the product. However I would buy a plastic spatula from a chemist for literally pennies and keep it for this product and wash it every few days.

Conclusion:

If you can afford to make the change then I would encourage you to do so. The formula is well balanced and is a good texture for application and gently rubbing in. You may feel ever a slight increase in the dampness but this is quickly absorbed by the clay and arrowroot.

They say

Awake Organics’ aromatherapy range fuses tried-and-tested formulas with premium essential oils, like frankincense, carrot seed and lemongrass to accomplish  a natural way to manage the stresses and strains of modern life, and to avoid additional exposure to carcinogens (harmful chemicals that cause Cancer). Melissa Kimbell (canadian creator and founder of Awake Organics in the UK) believes women need healthy, non-pharmaceutical options to help them cope with daily stress, anxiety, moodiness and problems sleeping. Incorporating the pleasure of aromatherapy into their daily routines, like moisturizing and applying deodorant, is so easy and yet such an effective way to help manage these common problems. The concept is that ritual, superfood ingredients and aromatherapy all work together to help create a more mindful, balanced and ultimately healthier lifestyle.

Aura Clean Natural Deodorant cream moisturises and soothes delicate skin, while providing all-day odour protection. Invigorating essential oils of lavender, rosemary, lemongrass and peppermint combine in this natural odour-killing formula. Stay fresh with our clever blend of organic botanicals, powerful essential oils, British kaolin and arrowroot powder. Organic, 100% natural deodorant.

Application:

Apply a pea-sized amount of this natural deodorant to entire underarm area and rub in. Allow to absorb 1 minute prior to dressing. If shaving, wait at least 30 minutes prior to applying. It is preferable to shave the night before if you have sensitive skin. Do not apply on broken or irritated skin. Store out of direct sunlight and use within 12 months of opening. Avoid contact with water in the jar. Avoid direct contact with eyes. For external use only.

We say

Aura Clean Deodorant is packaged in a neat little white cardboard box with calming graphics and fonts. It would catch your eye if it was sold in a store but sadly we have to get it online. It has had a lot of good press and awards so at least it’s out there for people to know about and order it.

The product itself is in a nice heavy glass jar with plastic lid that can be recycled. The formula is creamy and unctuous and feels smooth.

The ingredients include natural beeswax, cold-pressed virgin coconut oil and olive fruit oil as emulsifiers and carriers. Sodium bicarbonate, arrow root and kaolin are there to absorb perspiration as this formula does not halt the natural processes of the body. Then add in leaf oils ranging from rosemary which is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, lemongrass which is antibacterial and antiseptic and lavender for calming scent — and you have a super formula to do the job it promises to do. And, that includes not hindering the way the body works naturally to control temperature or expel toxins through sweat.

I have used the same deodorant for ages so trying this one was a leap of faith for me! There was no need to worry as it worked amazingly well. I would say the word damp was not quite the word but there was some element of not quite arid dryness, that I am not used to, but soon got over it and stopped noticing. After a week I seemed to have settled into the swing of the application that seemed odd at first. But, let’s not forget this beeswax based creamy thick salve was how perfume used to be sold so it is not quite out of the ordinary.

Effectiveness:

Very and although not what I am used to in the way of dryness, I was very impressed. 5 stars

Packaging:

Clean. Minimalist. Muted colours. 4.5 stars

Value for money:

It seems expensive but then if you purchased a luxury brand deodorant such as Dior Dolce, etc. you would pay more. If you can afford to make the change then do it. 5 stars
