Conclusion:

purepotions is a company that was founded by a mother who was looking for an emollient cream for her daughter that would suit her severely dry and itchy skin. Natalie worked with combinations of hemp, calendula, nettle and olive, all of which have historically been used by ancient civilizations.

They have come up with their lemon myrtle deodorant. A product that does a wonderful job without any harmful ingredients in sight.

They say

Our Lemon Myrtle Deodorant has a deliciously fresh, herbal scent and is 99% natural.

Made with pure, gentle, natural ingredients, lemon myrtle deodorant is ideal for those with dry or sensitive skin. Key active deodorising ingredients include saccharomyces ferment, an ammonia-metabolising yeast, and zinc ricinoleate, a natural zinc salt which is extracted from castor oil seeds and binds very effectively to odour-producing molecules.

It’s mild and hypoallergenic formulation means that it is also suitable for people suffering from eczema, psoriasis and other dry skin conditions.

Application:

Apply to underarms first thing in the morning on fresh, clean skin and after showering. Reapply as and when needed. (Because this is a natural product that may be more often than usual but will vary from person to person.)

Do not use on broken skin.

Allergy advice:
We recommend customers patch test on an unaffected area close to the affected area before use (leave for 24 hours) as some people may be allergic to the herbs or oils we use.

Do not use if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients in these products.

We say

Our underarms are often bathed in ingredients that are not doing them much good at all. Deodorant is a product that is on everyone’s shopping list; like milk and bread. So, we often pay no attention but grab the familiar and have never looked at the ingredients.

I am the very person I am talking about, having used the same deodorant for about five years. So it was with some fear I chose to test this product on a very busy day involving a lot of physical activity. Would it all go hideously wrong??

I liked the packaging and the actual deodorant bottle. A very tactile plastic with a good roll-on head that delivered the product evenly and not too fast.  The deodorant contains naturally antibacterial anti-inflammatory ingredients like witch hazel and lemon myrtle.

Lemon myrtle has many uses and helps with many conditions including sore throats, acne, indigestion, oral health and can boost your immune system. Here, it is the antimicrobial properties that prevent body odour by killing odour causing microbes. By the way if you want to tackle bad breath naturally then put a few drops of the essential oil in water and use as a gargle. Witch hazel is an astringent and closes pores as well as fighting bacteria.

It all sounded solidly backed up with good explanation of why it was going to work. I am relieved and rather excited that it did! I remained completely dry and odour free all through my day of pounding up and down five flights of stairs moving heavy costumes. Then kept me fresh as I did hair and make up for a cast of 25 eager young thespians.

I reached for this product again the next time which is high praise indeed.

Effectiveness:

Did exactly what it promised to do and smelt lovely while it did it. 5 Stars

Packaging:

The packaging and the font has a European feel to it – chic and laid back. 5 Stars

Value for money:

Not having the chemicals made it value for money for me. 4 Stars
