Rihanna: From Music Star to Business Mogul

Rihanna has many talents; she can sing, she can dance, she’s stylish and as of recent, she can design a kick-ass beauty line catering to every shade of skin colour! Rihanna’s rise to fashion and beauty mogul has been something to watch and we’re all waiting for her next big move. With Fenty Beauty, Fenty PUMA and Rihanna Loves Chopard already under her belt — we look forward to the new ventures Rihanna will add her name to.

With a successful music career, we have no doubt that she will continue to grow as a name in both beauty and fashion and ‘Work’ hard to get there.

This was the year for Rihanna’s first fragrance, Reb’L Fleur. Rebel Flower was the nickname given to her by her grandmother. This would be the first of her five (so far) fragrance launches. The fashion world was to be next…

2012 saw another two fragrances launched; Rebelle and Nude. The packaging of Nude was perfectly pink and the packaging for Rebelle was scarlet red. We definitely found love with these two scents.

Make way for Rihanna’s first full collection. Her collaboration with River Island hit the catwalk in February of 2013 and was “a dream come true” for the superstar. With four different launches in the year, this was her real entry into the world of fashion. The line was different to what anyone else was putting onto the catwalk and this set her in good stead for future collabs!

The beauty world also got a taste of Rihanna in 2013 as she showcased her first signature lipstick collab with MAC – RiRi Woo. The singer claimed that she’d been using MAC on tour and it was a “natural fit” for her.

She ended the year with her fourth fragrance Rogue. The female version launch in 2013 and the men’s version was released in 2014.

This year, she bagged an award at the CFDA Fashion Awards for ‘Style Icon of the Year’ which was a perfect way to recognise her for all of the work she’d done in the last few years in the fashion and beauty industries.

She also gave her fans a great Christmas with the announcement of her multi-year partnership with Puma. She also became their Creative Director in the women’s business sector of the company as part of the deal. Her relationship with them is still going strong!

2015 was a great year for Rihanna as she became the first black woman to front a campaign for… wait for it… Dior! She starred in the Secret Garden advertisements alongside actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard and Natalie Portman.

Her first line of Puma trainers hit the shops in 2015 and she ended the year by setting up a beauty and styling agency  called Fr8me. The company represents various stylists, make-up artists and hair stylists and is based around booking campaigns, shoots and red carpet events.

Summer 2017 saw a collaboration with luxury jewellery brand, Chopard.  The line, named Rihanna Loves Chopard, was Rihanna’s first foray into fine jewellery. The collection was launched at the Cannes Film Festival.

2017 was a great year for many celebrity ventures but Rihanna was streaks ahead of the rest with the release of Fenty Beauty. The makeup line was highly anticipated and certainly lived up to the hype. The range of skin tones catered for was astonishing for a first launch. And, Instagram was full of product mentions and reviews – Ri-Ri did good!

2018 looks set to be as productive (and lucrative) for Rihanna. We’re in awe of how far she’s come from her ‘Pon de Replay’ days. It’s clear that this girl shows she can not only ‘Talk That Talk’ but she can walk the walk.

Having been in love with both fashion and writing since I can remember, being able to write now, and for online readers, is quite literally a dream come true. I like to think that my writing reflects me as a person and shows some of my personality whilst still informing you about what’s on trend and what I’m loving each season. Fashion will constantly fuel me with ideas and inspiration for my writing so if you like what you read, you have the catwalk to thank.
