Throwback Thursday: Logomania
For today’s Throwback Thursday
we’re switching it up a bit. Logomania. We first fell in love with it on the steps of that Greenwich Village apartment. You know, when Carrie wore THAT “The Christian Dior Daily” dress to her date with “BIG” aka John James Preston. Needless to say Galliano was head of Dior at the time, and he was the one who started our never ending love affair with the ‘logo’. Just look back to the Dior Autumn/Winter 2004 campaign featuring Gisele Bundchen.
Post Galliano, and not just at Dior, ‘logomania’ did take a bit of a backseat while the fashion world switched to a ‘less is more’ school of thought; that is, until now. 2015 and 2016 were the years of quite a big change in the industry. Raf Simmons left Dior and was replaced by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Anthony Vaccarello replaced Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent. And, Alessandro Michele took over as head creative at Gucci. So, what do you see now? The new blood took a gamble on the brands’ classic approach to design and injected fun back into these fashion houses.
Gucci is everywhere, its logo is everywhere and everybody is wearing it. Dio (r) evolution t-shirts and handbags are on top of every stylist’s list. Add to the fact that the ‘J’adior’ underwear sets are impossible to get hold of. Literally, and trust me I’ve tried…in a few countries too.
Saint Laurent’s tribute to the ‘YSL’ logo is still exceptionally well received. After all the ‘YSL’ patent black pumps is wait list only. So with that said, our throwback style inspiration is logomania!
