Valentine’s is around the corner and here at i the stylist we are all about loving thyself before loving someone else. In truth, if we don’t love ourselves, who else will? Self-love breeds self-confidence, and confidence is attractive. And sexy. So we asked Makeup Artist and Skincare Expert Stacey Whittaker if she had any skin loving tips for us. This is what she had to share!
Quotes from Stacey Whittaker, Awarded Scotland’s Best Makeup Artist and Skincare Expert
Skin tends to change along with the seasons, so as the temperature drops and the dark nights draw in it is most likely time to alter your skin care and makeup routine. Due to the colder weather, our skin suffers the biting cold when outside and the dry heat from central heating when indoors. This can leave your face looking dull and dehydrated so using a suitable moisturiser is crucial. Be sure to cleanse your face and apply your chosen moisturiser straight away to give it a chance to sink in before applying your makeup. The Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+ is ideal for very dry skin or try the Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel if your skin tends to be oily. Opt for a richer foundation too as the sheer formula you used during summer will most likely be too lightweight for winter.
Despite your skin feeling dry and more sensitive it is still important to exfoliate to gently buff away dead skin cells. Adding this step into your skin care regime will also help your foundation sit better on the skin as you will have a smooth, even textured base. Use a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week after cleansing or use an exfoliating toner daily such as the cult Pixi Glow Tonic. This will also help even your skin tone and reduce redness so it is
a win win!
Don’t forget about your eyes – the eye contour area is your most sensitive so be sure to pay some attention there too. Using an eye cream at night and an eye roll gel on in the morning is a great way to combat fatigue and dark circles. The Khiels Creamy Eye Treatment is one of my favourites.
The same applies to your lips too – they desperately need some TLC throughout winter. Using a lip scrub will get rid of chapped skin and keep lips soft and supple ready for your favourite lipstick to be applied. Be sure to keep your favourite lip balm at hand too as you will need to hydrate your lips throughout the day, especially when outside as the cold weather can wreak havoc with your lips!
