French couture designer Alexandre Vauthier appears to be on a mission to dispel the myth that couture is stuffy, dated and traditional. In an interview with Vogue.com Vauthier described his goal for his latest collection as “extreme desirability…”. His use of draping and ability to show off the feminine form in a sexy yet classy way has made him a favourite with the A-listers. After graduating from prestigious private fashion school, ESMOD, in 1994 Vauthier interned at Thierry Mulger and worked his way up to an assistant. In 1996 he moved to Jean Paul Gaulthier where he remained for eight years. In 2008 Vauthier launched his own label and in 2014 he became an official member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture which allows his to use the term ‘haute couture’ in relation to his label. His famous clients include models, musicians and fashion editors including Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Italian journalist Anna Dello Russo and Lady Gaga. Here are five of our favourite red carpet moments from the brand…
The reality star is rarely out of the news whenever she hits the red carpet and her appearance at the America Music Awards back in 2014 was no different. Jenner looked great in Vaultier takes on a slip dress. The plunge neckline and thigh split add just enough interest to make the dress stand out whilst still keeping it red carpet worthy.
There aren’t many music stars that could pull off this look. Well, it’s not hard to see why Ciara has been snapped up on her second modelling contract – this time with IMG. Ciara regularly wears Vauthier on the red carpet and has done so at the Grammys two years in a row – here she is at the Grammys last year.
Model turned reality show judge Heidi Klum always looks fabulous on the red carpet so it’s no wonder she looked a million dollars in this gorgeous, fitted one-shoulder gown at the Golden Globes in 2013. The long sleeve adds another dimension to the gown and adds an attractive ‘toughness’ to the floor length gown.
Despite flashing very little flesh Rita Ora still topped column inches in this trouser and top combo from Vautheir. The singer, who was attending the MTV Europe Music Wards, certainly made a statement in the red embellished outfit from the brand’s AW12 couture line.
When you’re attending your own premiere you need to make sure you have the best outfit on the red carpet whilst making sure it fits the film’s theme to some degree. Well, Lupita Nyong’o nailed it with this gorgeous embellished green and silver gown she wore for her premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
