Australian fashion label Sass & Bide was founded by designers Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton. Clarke and Middleton met at secondary school and launched their label in the late 1990s. The design duo got their big break after a trip to New York saw the pair spot Sarah Jessica Parker filming a street scene for the Sex and the City series. Clarke cleverly handed the denim jacket that she was wearing (which was from one of their collections) to a security guard on set, for the attention of SJP. The jacket clearly impressed Jessica Parker and the pair were invited to meet her; which led to a few one-off pieces being commissioned for the show. The publicity gave the pair their big break and the brand went on to attract a celebrity following which included the likes of Rihanna, Madonna, Beyonce, Kate Moss and Nicole Richie. A fresh-faced looking Kylie Jenner opted for Sass & Bide for the ‘blue carpet’ at the Teen Choice awards in 2014. The reality star cleverly swapped the matching top (which was the same design as the skirt) for a simple black crop top which worked better for the event.
Swift opted for some pieces from the brand’s AW13 collection. Although I’m a fan of the bandeau crop top and peplum skirt my one gripe is the footwear. I can’t help but feel strappy high heeled sandals would have looked a lot better.
