Holiday Trend: South Buckinghamshire

One of the trends in June 2018 to watch is ‘stay-cation’.  Going for long weekend breaks, are rising due to holiday costs from Brexit. No longer a tradition to just holiday in the peak summer season, nowadays it’s about going on lots of small trips throughout the year. Whilst the Cotswold’s is the more obvious choice to take in the breathtaking views, South Buckinghamshire is just as beautiful.  A large part of the Chiltern Hills is renowned for being the area of outstanding beauty. The great part of the county is that there are so many things to see and do that cater to everyone’s taste.

Calm and Tranquillity

In particular Beaconsfield is a small picturesque market town where you can visit independent shops and boutiques that has a village feel. The town is renowned for having the first model village which is a good place to take the kids. The Royal Standard of England in Forty Green is the oldest pub in England which is over 900 years old. Interestingly this place is where the interior shots have also appeared in the film ‘Hot Fuzz’.

After having a Sunday Roast there, take the scenic route through the beech woodland nearby where you can walk through the wild flower meadow that shows a trend of season colours. The National Film and Television school in Beaconsfield is where many Directors and Producers learn their craft and film on locations nearby. So if you do visit this amazing town you may even spot a celebrity or two.

If you enjoy the water then you can always visit Marlow, a small pretty market town set in a lovely location at the River Thames. Take in the views by a relaxing boat ride with Salters Steamers to Henley or Windsor. Or in the coming month of June enjoy the Marlow Regatta which is a traditional British Rowing event that takes place annually. Think of it as a similar and alternative event to Ascot but without placing a bet. For further information, visit www.marlowtownregatta.org/

Trip to the wild side

A good reason to take a short holiday to Beaconsfield and other small towns surrounding the Chilterns is that it’s on the green commuter belt to London. If you fancy a change one day to go somewhere livelier and busy then you have London round the corner. From a peaceful, idyllic location it only takes less than half an hour on train to arrive at the busy capital. From there you can shop the seasons trends; high street and designer.

So let’s take advantage of the Spring season here in the UK and experience the beauty that is on our doorstep. The trend for a ‘stay-cation’ is here to stay.

Food Trend: Banana and Blueberry Pancakes

So pancake day has gone for yet another year, but that doesn’t mean pancakes  are reserved for that day only!  There is an alternative recipe to make them more nutritious and filling using fruits that are currently in season. With the summer season upon us, blueberries are sweet in flavour as well as having health benefits. Therefore the ongoing consumer trend to be more health conscious is still going strong.

Health Benefits

Blueberries helps heart health as well as bone strength, blood pressure, cancer prevention and mental health. Bananas are rich in potassium which helps keeps the heart beating regularly and reduce the effect of sodium on blood pressure. Potassium may also reduce the risk of kidney stones forming as people age. The healthy alternative to making pancakes with porridge oats instead of flour. It may sound strange at first but depending how sweet you make it, it does taste like flapjacks.

Here’s one I prepared earlier

I thought I would give it a go and this picture was taken by me prior to me demolishing it. It is of course your choice of what healthy toppings you want. I have added natural yogurt, granola, raspberries and a drizzle of honey to finish off and trust me – it was amazing washed down with a cup of tea. To recreate your own, please see a few recipes here: healthy pancake recipes.

Interior Trend: Palm leaf prints and Blush pink

With the evenings getting lighter, the trend to inject spring/summer colours into your living space seems the most obvious thing to do.

The holiday season approaching, so it is about creating that outside space inside. Ice cream colours with tropical palm tree prints gives that ‘holiday at the Bahamas’ feeling. To keep the trends fresh and not overpowering, palm prints can extend to cushions and wall art. To really create that ‘outside look’ inside, buy some plants but keep the rest of the room simple. Keeping colours light, this will make the room even bigger and it is easy to recreate.

Fashion Trend: Kitten Heel

Let’s be honest, how many of you have worn wear high heels and afterwards complaining about the pain? Yes I am guilty, but with the trend of the controversial kitten heel you can still look chic, sexy and it’s more practical (your feet don’t hurt). For short girls, like me, this also gives you a nice elevated lift. Kitten heels can also be a saviour for the tall girls who want to look smart without the extra height.

The kitten heels has been around for years. It has often been the subject of ridicule but you’ll be intrigued to know there are many stylish options available compared to before. Wear whimsical shoes seen at Miu Miu, jewel toned like Self-Portrait or wear with socks like Mary Katrantzou.  Or, keep it simple by opting for black, white or nude pairing casually with jeans or slip them on for work.

The options are endless with the style of the heel itself; whether it’s coned or decorated beautifully. Just one thing to keep in mind is make sure it fits like a glove and perfect for you.

I’m a business and fashion graduate working in Merchandising and have come from an analytical background working in various industries. I am an inquisitive person so enjoy researching trends and I am also a fitness fanatic, partaking in any gym classes that challenge me and through sheer determination I have lost 6 stone (although weirdly enough I still do not like running as it reminds me of doing cross country at school). My favourite fashion trend is minimalist chic and I tend to dress based on my mood. So casual one day to a tailored, more polished look the next and no dislikes of trends that I can think of. I love the TV show ‘Scandal’ and although I am not a big reader; my favourite book that I never get tired of reading is ‘The Beautiful Fall: Fashion, Genius & Glorious Excess in 1970’s Paris’.
