Withings website boldly references their smartwatches as the ‘new face of activity tracking’. The French manufacturer is clearly confidant that they are not afraid of any competition. Withing’s CEO, Cédtic Hutchings, made his feelings clear earlier this month at CES 2015 stating, “Smartwatches today, they are giving wearables a bad name.”
The brand currently have two offerings on the market – the Withings Activité ($450.00) and the lower priced Withings Activité Pop ($149.95). Much like it’s predecessor, the Activité, the Activité Pop has bee lauded for it’s simple, elegant design. Before you get too excited though – it only works with the iPhone.
Hutchings spoke of the company’s desire to produce Android Wear powered smartwatches but has ruled out any developments in the immediate future due to restrictions and the poor battery performance of the current Google OS. Speaking exclusively to TrustedReviews he explained, “Definitely we are looking at it but we are trying to build in some differentiators and be very careful on the battery life and make a different proposal on the UI.”
Features of the Activité Pop include sleep and activity tracking, water-resistance, Bluetooth connectivity and an 8-month battery life. It currently is available in a choice of three colours – bright azure, shark grey and white sand. The Activité Pop is available on pre-order from the Withings website.
