Winter Comfort Dressing: How to Stay Cosy and Stylish

Winter is quickly approaching, with the cold weather meaning a change in everyday clothing essentials. Short shorts may be a no go, but there are plenty of pieces that are sure to keep you on trend yet nice and cosy. Wrap up warm while showing off the latest winter trends with our top tips on keeping the cold out while staying stylish this winter.

Knitted jumpers are a winter essential, and it’s easy to see why. Simple to style yet incredibly trendy, knitted jumpers look amazing tucked into blue high waisted mom jeans or plain skinny jeans for an everyday look. Roll neck jumpers give this classic look a high-end twist, keeping you cosy but warm when styled underneath an oversized denim jacket. Tuck a portion of the front into your jeans to show off a trendy western-style belt buckle, pull on some black boots or chunky trainers and you’ll be good to go. Stock up on a few jumpers in dark green, burgundy and classic cream to keep up with the trends while staying warm throughout the colder months.

Stay super cosy but stylish with a quilted or padded winter jacket. Puffer jackets in particular were a popular choice last year, and that trend has definitely returned this winter. Superdry has a wide selection of quilted winter jackets this season, some with added faux fur hoods for extra cosiness. Puffer coats are a must-have as they are easy to style with other trends, such as with an oversized roll neck knit and brown cord skirt as mentioned above. They are easy to style for a night out too, just add some strappy heels, a clutch bag and a long sleeved bodysuit to glam it up.

According to Harpers Bazaar, brown is the go-to colour for autumn and winter 2018. But, don’t assume brown is boring – the different shades are all softer than black but can be equally as edgy. Wrap up warm in a brown wool overcoat, opting for a cooler tone if you want to avoid distracting dark colours. A brown cord skirt with thick tights and boots gives off an arty air, especially when combined with an oversized trench coat. Cords are another big trend for the A/W 2018 season, so combining both trends is an easy way of staying stylish this winter.

Tweed coats were listed in The Guardian’s five key trends for autumn, but it’s clear that these vintage-inspired jackets will be a staple item during the winter months too. On trend but warm, long tweed coats are easy to incorporate into your everyday winter looks as well as being perfect for work. Knee high boots and skinny jeans look great with thick tweed coats, as well as adding some extra warmth. Swap the knee highs for ankle boots if you want to go more casual, and don’t be afraid to layer it up with a casual knitted cardigan under the coat.

If you want an ultra-chilled outfit that’s both cosy and warm, you need a few pair of skinny joggers. Athleisure wear was one of the biggest trends of the year, so carry it on with some sporty but soft tracksuit bottoms in grey marl, black or even the popular camouflage print. Combine these soft skinny fit joggers with chunky trainers, a sports brand long sleeved tee and a big hoodie to keep the cold out. The aforementioned puffer jacket would make a great addition to this look, adding some extra layers that still reflect the athleisure-wear vibe made popular by the Kardashian clan.
