This week’s Woman Crush Wednesday is singer Alexandra Burke. Burke came into prominence after winning the second series of The X Factor in 2008. Her debut single ‘Hallelujah’ went straight to #1 in Christmas 2008 and has so far released two studio albums; Overcome (2009) and Heartbreak on Hold (2012). Burke made her West End debut when she replaced Beverly Knight as the lead in The Bodyguard Musical in the summer of 2012. Following the closure of the musical in the West End, Burke reprised her lead role and is currently on a nationwide tour of the show.
Least likely to…give up. Since the age of 16 Alexandra Burke had attempted to get her big break in the music industry. She initially auditioned for The X Factor in 2005 and although she made it through to the judge’s houses in Louis Walsh’s 16-24 category Walsh decided not to put her through to the live shows as he felt she was too young and therefore not ready. Prior to applying for The X Factor in 2008, Alexandra Burke sought professional singing lessons in order to improve her talent, and those lessons certainly paid off!
Impress her with…cakes. The singer is a baking enthusiast and loves nothing more than baking in her free time.
