Woman Crush Wednesday: Charlize Theron

Our Woman Crush Wednesday got her big break in 1997 opposite Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves playing Reeves’ wife in The Devil’s Advocate. Charlize Theron has earned her stripes. The South-African born former dancer and child model became the first South African actress to win an Oscar for her moving performance (and unbelievable physical transformation) in the 2003 movie Monster, which saw her portray real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos who was executed in 2002 for the murder of six men.  Not only did she win an Oscar but she also picked up a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for the role.  Since then Theron has been a firm fixture on the A-list and has notched up starring roles in action films such as Hanrock, The Road, Prometheus, Mad Max:Fury Road and The Fate of the Furious.  Catch her this summer opposite James McAvoy and John Goodman in MI5 spy thriller, Atomic Blonde

 

Least likely to…get married. On the subject of marriage she once said, “I’m happy for people who want to get married, but it’s not my thing. I’m extremely happy in my relationship and I would love to have kids.”

 

 

Impress her with…fried food. She reveals, “Anything fried I’ll take. Are you kidding me? I will fry my shoe and eat it.”

 

 

Mention…ballet.  Until an injury halted her dancing career Charlize was an accomplished dancer and secured work with Joffrey Ballet in New York after leaving South Africa.

 

 

And another thing…Theron was discovered after causing a scene in a bank. Theron was trying to cash an out of state cheque at her bank and became enraged when the bank refused to cash it. Her outburst directed at the bank cashier caught the attention of an acting agent, who offered her representation provided she could master  an American accent…
