This week’s Woman Crush Wednesday is British soul singer-songwriter – and one of our favourite artists – Joss Stone. Since rising to fame in 2003 at the age of 16, Joss Stone has had many major accomplishments. Her first two albums – The Soul Sessions and Mind, Body & Soul – both sold millions of copies in numerous countries. Her successful singles include ‘You Had Me’, ‘Don’t Cha Wanna Ride’, ‘Super Duper Love’, ‘Right To Be Wrong’, ‘Spoiled’ and ‘Fell In Love With A Boy’. Stone has two BRIT Awards and a Grammy under her belt and after a four year hiatus released her seventh album Water For Your Soul.
Least likely to…dominate the spotlight. Whilst Stone has gained worldwide recognition for her music she has often admitted in interviews that she doesn’t like fame.
Impress her with…60s soul. Joss Stone grew up listening to soul music by artists such as Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield, both of whom she considers to be her idols.
Mention…her wealth. Joss Stone has often appeared on the Sunday Times Rich List and in 2012 her net worth was estimated to be around £10 million, making her the fifth richest British musician under the age of 30. This is very impressive for a lady from a small village in Devon.
And another thing…her cover version of the song ‘I Put A Spell On You’ by blues singer Screamin’ Jay Hawkins is featured on the My Burberry advert, which features supermodels Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss.
